BREAKING NEWS: Netflix to Release The Underdog, a Documentary on Patriots Legend Vince Wilfork
Netflix has officially announced the upcoming release of The Underdog, a powerful new documentary chronicling the life and career of NFL legend Vince Wilfork. The film is set to premiere globally on Friday, July 12, 2025, and is already generating major buzz across the sports and entertainment world.
The Underdog dives deep into the inspiring story of Wilfork, who overcame personal tragedy, limited expectations, and a sea of doubters to become one of the most dominant defensive linemen in NFL history. From his early days in Boynton Beach, Florida, to his All-American career at the University of Miami, and ultimately to his iconic tenure with the New England Patriots, the documentary captures every major chapter of his remarkable life.

Narrated by Emmy Award-winning actor Sterling K. Brown and featuring interviews with Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, Rob Gronkowski, and Wilfork’s family and friends, The Underdog is as much a portrait of the man behind the facemask as it is a celebration of his football achievements.
Wilfork, a two-time Super Bowl champion and five-time Pro Bowler, was the heart and soul of the Patriots’ defense for over a decade. Yet despite his accolades, Wilfork was often overlooked in national conversations—a narrative this documentary aims to change.
“This isn’t just about football,” Wilfork says in the trailer. “It’s about showing people that no matter where you come from, how many people doubt you, or how big the obstacles are—you can rise above it all.”

The Underdog also highlights Wilfork’s off-field journey, from losing both parents in college to his deep involvement in charity and mentoring. It includes never-before-seen footage and heartfelt moments that showcase his strength, love for family, and commitment to community.
Produced by NFL Films in collaboration with LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment, the film combines powerful storytelling with elite production quality. “Vince’s story is one of heart, loyalty, and grit,” said executive producer Maverick Carter. “We wanted to show the full picture of a man who gave everything to the game, his team, and his family.”
The documentary also offers a look at Wilfork’s post-retirement life, highlighting his work as a motivational speaker, mentor, and media personality.
To mark the release, Netflix will host a special live event on July 11, featuring Wilfork and several of his former teammates. Early reviews from industry insiders describe The Underdog as “raw, emotional, and unforgettable”—a must-watch for sports fans and newcomers alike.
The Underdog premieres exclusively on Netflix on Friday, July 12, 2025.
