OFFICIAL RELEASE: The 2026 Kawasaki KX500 2-Stroke Returns With a Roar
Kawasaki has officially announced the return of a legend: the 2026 KX500 2-stroke. Set to retail at $11,999 in the United States, this highly anticipated machine is reviving one of the most iconic motocross bikes in history, with modern upgrades that blend classic power with cutting-edge technology.
After years of anticipation and countless rumors across motocross forums and enthusiast circles, Kawasaki has pulled back the curtain on the next chapter of the KX500 legacy. Fans of two-stroke power can now rejoice as the KX500 makes its triumphant comeback—engineered for today’s riders, yet retaining the raw performance that made it famous decades ago.
Global Rollout Begins Mid-2025
The new KX500 will begin its global rollout in June 2025, starting with select European dealerships. North American enthusiasts won’t have to wait much longer, as the bike will arrive in the U.S. and Canada starting in July. From there, Kawasaki plans to extend availability to other international markets throughout the second half of the year.
With strong demand expected, Kawasaki recommends checking with authorized dealers for availability and pre-orders, as the initial production run is projected to sell out quickly.
Heritage Meets Innovation
The 2026 KX500 remains true to its roots with a powerful 499cc two-stroke engine, delivering the explosive acceleration and aggressive torque that riders expect. However, this isn’t a simple reissue—the engine has been re-engineered for enhanced reliability, cleaner emissions, and improved rideability without sacrificing its signature punch.

Fueling has been modernized with electronic fuel injection, eliminating the need for carburetor tuning and significantly improving throttle response across all RPM ranges. Cooling efficiency has also been upgraded, thanks to a redesigned radiator system that ensures optimal engine temperatures during intense sessions on the track or trail.
Kawasaki has equipped the KX500 with a new lightweight aluminum perimeter frame, inspired by the KX450 platform. This provides excellent rigidity and handling characteristics, giving riders better control and stability in demanding terrain. Suspension comes courtesy of fully adjustable Showa components, with 49mm front forks and a high-performance rear shock tuned specifically for aggressive two-stroke riding.
Aggressive Styling and Modern Ergonomics
Visually, the KX500 is unmistakably modern while paying homage to its legendary lineage. Sleek bodywork and factory-inspired graphics give it a race-ready look straight off the showroom floor. Ergonomics have also seen a major update—narrower body panels, a flatter seat profile, and wider footpegs offer improved rider comfort and maneuverability.
A new digital dash provides real-time information including RPM, engine temperature, and customizable ride settings. Optional smartphone connectivity allows riders to adjust engine mapping and monitor performance via Kawasaki’s Rideology app, offering a level of tuning and customization never before available on a KX two-stroke.
Built for a New Generation of Riders—and the Veterans Who Remember
Whether you’re a long-time fan of the original KX500 or a new rider looking for unmatched two-stroke performance, the 2026 model delivers in every category. It’s a bike that respects its heritage but isn’t stuck in the past. It’s a machine built for those who crave power, precision, and adrenaline—on the track, in the dunes, or through the woods.
The 2026 Kawasaki KX500 is more than just a return; it’s a statement. Kawasaki has reignited the two-stroke flame with a purpose-built powerhouse that’s ready to dominate a new era of off-road riding.
