The guardians seem cautiously hopeful regarding Steven Kwan’s right wrist injury.
Cleveland, Ohio — When discussing Steven Kwan’s injury status after Cleveland’s 7-4 comeback victory over the Dodgers on Wednesday at Progressive Field, Guardians manager Stephen Vogt seemed cautiously optimistic.
Kwan “should be good to go” when Cleveland opens a three-game weekend series against the Angels on Friday, Vogt told reporters after the game.
The decision was taken to remove Kwan before the fourth inning began because he had a wrist injury sustained during a swing earlier in the pitch.
Nolan Jones, who went 3 for 3 with a two-run single in the eighth that knotted the score at 4–4, took Kwan’s place in left field and the leadoff spot in Vogt’s lineup. This allowed Angel Martinez to hit the game-winning three-run home run against Los Angeles southpaw Alex Vesia.
Vogt later stated that the Guardians did not want to endanger their three-time Gold Glove Award winner’s health.
“He kind of felt it on his swing, and we get 48 hours till our next game,“ Vogt said. ”We felt like it was the right call to just get him out of there, but he should be good to go on Friday.”
In the first two innings, Kwan, 27, went 0–2 with two ground outs. On the first pitch he saw, he ended the second inning by bouncing out to Freddie Freeman, first baseman for Los Angeles.
Kwan missed 23 games in May 2024 with a left hamstring issue and two weeks in September with mid-back soreness.
Among the American League leaders in plate appearances per strikeout (second, 10.5), hits (fifth, 66), batting average (fifth,.314), multi-hit games (tied for sixth, 19), and outfield assists (six), Kwan was named an All-Star starter the previous season.
