Charlton Athletic agree six-figure deal to sign 24- year- old

Charlton Athletic have been busy during the summer transfer window following their promotion to the Championship.

The Addicks have brought in several new players to strengthen their squad for life back in the second tier, which has contributed to them making an encouraging start to the 2025/26 campaign under Nathan Jones.

Charlton have made a positive start to the new season, with a couple of good results in the Championship and a first-round victory over Stevenage in the EFL Cup, but Jones has not yet finished his summer transfer business.

The Welshman has discussed potentially making another new signing before the transfer window closes, as per Rich Cawley via X.

“What we probably want to do is add at least one body,” Jones said.

“We know what position we need it. We want to make sure our numbers are good.

“The club have been amazing in backing us.”

Charlton have been linked with a move for Japanese right-back Shinnosuke Fukuda during the summer transfer window, with him currently playing a key role in Kyoto Sanga’s title challenge at the top of the J1 League.

The Addicks were keen on signing the defender on an initial loan deal with an option to buy, but Kyoto Sanga were only interested in a permanent exit, as per the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old’s chances of being included in Japan’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup would be improved by playing Championship football this term.

Journalist Will Pickworth reported that Fukuda has a release clause worth £800,000 in his contract, so Charlton paid a significant six-figure fee to sign the full-back.
