Andrija Jelavić’s First Words as a Kentucky Wildcat Will Fire Up Big Blue Nation

Kentucky fans finally got the moment they’ve been waiting for — Andrija Jelavić is on campus.

The 6-foot-9 Croatian forward made his first official introduction to Big Blue Nation on Monday, sharing a video message through Kentucky basketball’s social media channels.

“Hello, BBN. I’m Andrija Jelavić. I’m here on campus. I’m excited to get to work, to meet you all, and I’m excited to get a number 9,” Jelavić said with a smile.

From Europe to Kentucky

Jelavić’s arrival has been one of the most anticipated storylines of Mark Pope’s first offseason as head coach. The versatile forward landed in the U.S. over the weekend and was spotted courtside with Pope at a professional tennis match in Cincinnati, signaling his transition to Lexington was officially underway.

Now that he’s on campus, the international addition adds even more intrigue to a retooled Kentucky roster that has already drawn plenty of attention around the SEC.

What Jelavić Brings

Known for his blend of size, skill, and international experience, Jelavić projects as a forward who can stretch the floor while also battling in the paint. His commitment earlier this summer was considered a significant recruiting win for Pope, who has leaned heavily on both player development and global scouting as he assembles his first Wildcats squad.

With fall practices looming, Jelavić will now begin team workouts and start building chemistry with his new teammates.

Big Blue Nation’s First Look

For Kentucky fans, the short welcome video was more than just an introduction — it was confirmation that one of the final key pieces of the roster is officially in place.

As Pope and the Wildcats prepare for the 2025–26 season, Jelavić’s arrival represents another important step in building a team that has both the talent and depth to compete at the highest level.

Big Blue Nation has been eagerly waiting to see the Croatian forward in Kentucky blue, and now, that wait is over.
