The New York Yankees have had an eventful offseason, highlighted by acquiring starting pitcher Max Fried to join Gerrit Cole at the top of their rotation. Following Fried’s addition, the Yankees traded away Nestor Cortes Jr., but they still face a crowded rotation at the major league level. With six big-league starters and several top prospects ready to compete for spots in 2025, the Yankees may need to move another pitcher to avoid losing value.
Pete Caldera of NorthJersey.com recently predicted that the Yankees might trade Marcus Stroman to the Toronto Blue Jays. Stroman, who began his career with Toronto, is under contract for $18 million in 2025. Caldera speculated that Yankees GM Brian Cashman could send Stroman back to the Blue Jays in exchange for two lottery-pick prospects, giving Toronto an experienced starter for their rotation.
For the Yankees, trading Stroman would free up significant payroll space, allowing them to allocate funds toward improving other areas, such as acquiring a stronger option at third base or bolstering their bullpen. Meanwhile, Stroman’s return to Toronto would make him one of their most seasoned starters.
The question remains: will the Yankees consider trading Stroman? And would the Blue Jays be interested in bringing him back to strengthen their rotation?
