Sad News: Eagles Cutting Ties with $51 Million Veteran With Hefty Multi-year contract After Disappointing Season
The Philadelphia Eagles committed to a hefty multi-year contract for defensive end Bryce Huff, but his first year in Philly did bring a good return on investment.

It’s hard to look at the Philadelphia Eagles’ roster – which features multiple position groups considered to be the best in the NFL – and think general manager Howie Roseman is ever prone to failure.
He’s human, after all, and that much was seen with one free agent signing from last offseason that is already viewed as a major miscalculation.
Philadelphia signed edge rusher Bryce Huff last year to a three-year $51 million contract with the hopes he could be a solid replacement to Haason Reddick who left in free agency.
Huff was anything but, posting a disappointing 13 tackles on the season and just 2.5 sacks after registering 10 the year prior. He also dealt with a wrist injury that forced him to miss some time.
These things happen, but thankfully the Eagles’ were great enough in other areas to still march to another Super Bowl win last season.
This underwhelming performance has now put the Philly front office in a bind as they consider sticking it out with Huff or biting the bullet and moving on.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes the five-year veteran is the most likely Philadelphia player on the chopping block this offseason as teams begin trimming down their rosters before training camp.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes the five-year veteran is the most likely Philadelphia player on the chopping block this offseason as teams begin trimming down their rosters before training camp.
“This offseason, Philly added Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari before drafting Antwaun Powell-Ryland,” Knox said. “Cutting Huff would cost the Eagles $29.3 million in dead cap but could open up reps for players who may contribute on a more consistent basis.
“If Howie Roseman can’t find a trade partner to take Huff, he could be cut.”
With the reinforcements brought in through free agency and the NFL Draft this offseason, Huff will likely struggle to find snaps if he doesn’t show drastic improvements from last year.
But with the financial commitment tied to him, it’s safe to assume he’ll be kept around until he leaves them with no choice … or another team comes calling.
Huff brings a modest $7.4 million cap hit in 2025, but his back-loaded contract will do major cap space damage in the future if he’s cut.
Huff, 27, could be playing for his career this summer.
